Mike: Good to hear from you. I posted an update on the Samuel B. Roberts page about a month ago. I am currently writing the early chapters for the manuscript, which is due August 15 at St. Martin’s Press. They will publish it sometime early next year. I have completed most of the reading and many of the interviews, but saved some to conduct near the end of my research process, including your family. In the next month or so I will be calling people with some questions about Paul’s story, mostly about what the family knew of Paul’s service at the time he was serving in 1944, how they followed news of the war at that time, whether anyone in the family has information or material that has not been previously seen/used, what they recall about learning of Paul’s death, and what that battle and Paul’s part in it mean to the family. Who do you suggest I contact for that information? The research has gone very well. Different families have made letters, reminiscences, and photographs available, and I have had the good fortune to interview more than twenty survivors. I’m pleased with the writing so far, and I think you and others will be happy with the final product. Paul’s role in this amazing story certainly is worthy of notice. Give my regards to all, and let me know who to call about the information. Take care, John

Genealogy Update on Nancy Ann Trobaugh Austin
Thursday, 10 February 2011 20:26
Nancy Lynn Milam
Nancy Ann Trobaugh Austin was Mama Carr's mother and my great grandmother. Because I share her name ,Nancy, I have developed a keen interest in her personality and heritage. Regretably, this interest has developed after my Mama, Peggy Carr Dodd developed dementia and can not answer my many question.
Much to my surprise, our doorbell rang Sunday, the day after Christmas, and there stood two strangers who introduced themselves as Dorothy Austin Vanover and her daughter, Patty. Dorothy is mama's first cousin because she is the daughter of Claude Austin, Uncle Bunk, Mama Carr's youngest brother. She was driving through Tulsa and wanted to find out any information on my Mama and Dad. She had visited our Austin-Carr website previously and hoped that this was the correct Steve and Nancy Milam.
We had a delightful visit and she has given me and mailed to me a wealth of information concerning some of our heritage. I have entered some of the geneology facts to the geneology component of Austin-Carr site. If interested, it traces our descendants from Johan Michael Trobaugh, born about 1700 in Evangelich, Sohren, Rhienland, preussen through 6 generations to Nancy Ann Trabaugh, our great grandmother. She sent other information too, but I must organize it. This demonstrates that the website is being viewed by people we don't even know.
Thank you David for your hard work.

The Feather Bed

I haven't added a whole lot besides names and dates that I've come up with along the way and a lot of pics that I found in my grandmother's old shed. So here's on that I heard about alot when I was younger and more when I started hunting geneaology more extensively.
A little background first. My mother, Nancy Kathleen Kelly, is the daughter of Margaret Lunelle Austin (Hulsey) Kelly, granddaugher of Maggie Austin and ggrandaughter to Sephronia Horn Austin and Charles Austin. Ok......so
Mom and grandmother used to go to Tulsa a lot to visit the relatives, Goldie and her bunch. The visits consisted of the cousins that were there (all girls) hanging out and playing while the adults played cards in the main room. Mom said that Goldie had this HUGE feather bed that the girls loved to curl up in, wrestle in and just generally hang out in. Mom has always said how soft and big that bed was and that it could hold all of the girls (7 or so of them) Many of the family did this (they also went to all of the cemetaries in the Tulsa area every year to put flowers on the graves) it was Goldie's house, her daughers were there as was Frona, and Goldie's sisters and their girls that were close. Those card games were a great treat for mom and she says she'll always miss that big ol' bed.
anyway, just a cute little something :)
Reunion, post Reunion, etc.

That was controlled chaos, wasn't it?!
Carr Sister #8, Juanita Rush, who stayed in the lodge itself (not the Bunkhouse), said the clerk told her during her check-out that the Carr Family Reunion was the best organized reunion they had seen this year. To give you some perspective, the Muskogee Phoenix had a lead article on Sequoyah State Park , Sunday, August 1, 2010, talking about upgrades and updating that will be done to the park, the lodge, etc. in coming months. The article indicated there are at least 8 major family reunions every weekend! So the compliment was pretty impressive!
Now, if we were to imagine the non-planning committee family members wanting to toss approbation, then I would suggest a mental picture if you will. The planning committee members would be in a group going down a double line of family members applauding them.
